Hurrah! The gig was a success tonight.

French Wives were fucking awesome and got everything off to a nice loud start, then Jesus H.Foxx were just amazing. They're one of the tightest bands I've actually seen. Blimey.

And then I pretty much fell in love with Violet Violet. Awwww. They're such nice goils.

Aaaaaand the place was busy and warm. And then I ripped out the light in the bathroom. Coz I is well ard.

Well, it's dark o'clock.

Which means that you can pretty much expect this blog to feature swearing, violence and nudity. You may also expect that I will struggle to make work tomorrow.

Anyway, tonight I went to see North Atlantic Oscillation, Y'All is Fantasy Island and How To Swim at Sleazys. It was good. The drummer from YIFI is injured though, so we were given a limited edition acoustic performance. Exciting.

Anyway, while I was sticking up a few posters during my lunch-hour today, I went into the CCA to stick one up and there wasn't really a good space. So I started looking for a poster that was out of date; when I found one, I tore it down, put it in my bag, put up my poster and left.

Except that now I look at the poster, it quite clearly isn't out of date. I don't know how my mind tricked itself into thinking that the 29th of September is in the past. Shit.

Anyway, I guess I better put the word out;

Wow! I'd forgotten I'd taken that!!! That's obvvvv No Cars from the other night at the Flying Duck. They were nice.

Anyway, this weekend.

tonight was fun, yeah. we didn't get as big a crowd as usual; we usually draw at least 20 people into a venue. so, yeah, it wasn't jumping tonight.

which was a shame, because no cars were outstanding. like, really fucking amazing. really really amazing. as i said earlier, it wasn't busy tonight, so i did lose a few quid, but i just stood smiling throughout the entire set. so it was ok; music is nice.

the people at the flying duck are soooo nice as well. i made lots of new friends. so all in all, a good night, thank you very much.

i can pretty much give a personal thanks to every single person who went. but i'll do that some other time, some other place.

Here's a simple bloggy post; the beatz i've been cranking out. These posts don't always have to have a point; you should just be satisfied to be hearing what I listen to. Here are my top reggaeton/dancehall/one-drop tracks.

Btw, you should note that the each have Youtube links; it's not to make a point about illegal downloading or owt, it's just because Youtube seems to be the focal point for new dancehall, rather than forums or blogs or whatever. So, with each song, if you're lucky, you'll get a video with jiggly sexy ladies. Or you may get a picture of jiggly sexy lady. Or you may get a silhouette of a sexy lady, standing against a Jamaican flag.

Beenie Man, feat T.O.K. - Bring It On

Beenie Man is pretty much my favourite dancehall dude; the main parallel to be drawn between American hip-hop and dancehall is that it's primarily about singles and the occasional mix-tape. Which means that Beenie is the main man, simply due him being so consistant with the quality of his work. Nice.

Turbulence - Notorious

A bit of an obvious selection; I play it every party I'm ever at and it's generally considered to be the high-point of reggae or, probably more specifically, one-drop of this century. Although, Turbulence hasn't come close to matching this track. But then again, no-one else has so I'll cut home-boy some slack.

Chezidek - Call Pon Dem

Another no-brainer. I won't pretend to understand the political aspect of the track, other than venturing that it's something to do with 'legalising da 'erb'. But never mind; melodically, it's a nice wee breezy hummable number. Sweet organ on the chorus too.

D'Angel - Blaze

Probably the most Americanised track here, which makes it odd that it was overlooked by day-time radio over here. Not much to say really; just a straight-forward bit of club music. I'm not up on my dancehall gossip, but I think I remember hearing that she's Bennie Man's missus. Recognise.

Sean Paul - Watch Dem Roll

I'll actually defend Sean Paul to the death. His beats can sometimes be lazy, but his flow is consistantly brilliant. So i've no problems with him. This particular track works very well because it has a nice hyper drum track, which I'm appreciating very much. Props to Sean Paul; his rhyme schemes are just as good as Lil Wayne's or 3000's, so I don't know why he gets overlooked.

Aiiiii. Oh, and it's the Ballers Social Club's 1st birthday at the Art School on the 12/9. Sets from The Bug and Warrior Queen, as well Memory9 and Rob Soundcrash.

blimey; i've not blogged in a while.

we had our first Rug Cutting night last Friday and it was really really good. Unfortunately, my phone ran out of battery at about 18:00 so I can't supply any video's or photo's, as planned. So apologies. no-one else seems to have thought of doing so either and all that remains from the night is a fairly poor-quality video of Popcorn Superhet playing a NIN cover.

All the bands were brilliant though; Sean started things off really really well and created a few high spirits, which seemed to hang about for the rest of the night. Popcorn Superhet (0r 'Alan') was as noisy as I'd expected, which was nice. And Super Adventure Club were also very good and provided lots of nice wee twists and turns. After that, I just went home.

Interesting piece in Pitchfork by Philip Sherburne, about how rubbish techno is these days. I half agree; the scene over here is fucking rank, but I guess I'll have to make do with headphone dj mixes.

This was the on the recent Speicher 58, along with Steadycam's 'Get On Up There', and frankly, it stole the show with its warm drones and sampled clicky guitar notes. Eees verry nice.

Tom Ellis - Gain - Minibar Music
To be perfectly honest, Tom Ellis is sort of new to me, so I don't really feel qualified to give this track a proper intro. But yeah, quality clicky minimal, from Wales. I'm sure he'd be more widely known if he was from Stockholm or Hamburg.

Another fairly recent acquaintance of mine; pretty much as deep as deep can get really, with some lush ambient washes going on underneath. Easily my track of the year so far; worth buying £70 head-phones for.

It says a lot when a producer can stand out on Perlon, which just so happens to be my favourite label. I guess this is some more deep/minimal/ambient techno, and yet is totally essential.

By the by, I finally got my copy of Ricardo Villalobos' Vasco Part 1 EP this morning. It's probably the most danceable thing he's done in a wee while, which is a good thing since I've always favoured his DJ sets to most of his output (although his Fabric mix was beautiful).

Maybe Ricardo become re-acquainted with the dancefloor means we'll get some Villalobos pumped out at the Sub Club or the Arches. Maybe.
